Rose Valley and Underground City Tour
Small group Cappadocia tour: Visits Rose Valley, Çavuşin old village and Kaymakli Underground City
Our tour begins at 09:30 by pick-up from your Cappadocia hotel. After a 5 minute drive we will start our leisurely hike through the beautiful Rose Valley which will take a little over one hour (3 km).
We will see rock formations locally called fairy-chimneys, farm dwellings, pigeon houses and some cave chapels carved out of the rock and camouflaged in the landscape. We will also enjoy the fantastic range of rose-colored hues in the valley, changing in intensity depending on the season, time of day and weather conditions. Your guide will explain to you about the history and the unique rock formations of Cappadocia during our walk.
Ah the end of the hike, we will stop off at the quaint old Cavusin cave village. You will see the old Greek houses in Çavuşin village, abandoned by their Christian occupants in 1924 during the Greek/Turkish population exchange triggered after the signing of the treaty of Lausanne.
In the afternoon, we visit the Kaymaklı underground city, the first and most popular underground city in Cappadocia. This complex carved underground settlemement was used for hundreds of years by locals to hide from Romans, Persians and Maurs. Whole villages descended underground and hid for months taking their livestock and food stores.
