It is the starting point of the climbs to the Kaçkar Mountains from the north. There are many accommodation options on the plateau, from bungalows to typical highland house concepts, from family pensions to hotels. It is the most popular tourism center of Rize and one of the most preferred holiday destinations in the region with its rich flora and fauna as well as its spa. It is within walking distance of the Gürgendibi and Gelintülü Waterfalls, flowing from meters above in the sound of the Fırtına Stream, and is the crossing point of many other places worth seeing. Ayder Honey is one of the delicacies that should be tasted in the plateau.
Peruma, with its former name, is one of the rivers in the Eastern Black Sea Region and was formed by the merging of the creeks on the slopes of the Kaçkar Mountains facing the Black Sea. The river is 68 km long. The bed of the creek is very stony along the track, which lasts approximately 23 km, and there are places with 3 - 4 - 5 difficulty levels depending on the flow of the water. Care should be taken in heavy rains. Storm Creek is suitable for river sports all year round. It is an ideal place especially for rafting.
It consists of inner and lower castles. It is thought that the inner castle was built during the reign of Justinian I (527-565), and the lower castle was built in the 13th century. The area around the castle is operated as a tea garden with the landscaping. It is one of the ideal spots in the city center for viewing the city. The castle, which does not have a neat plan, is built on a natural hill 150 meters high. The entrance gate of the inner castle, which was built of smooth cut stone and rubble stone, is in the east. Due to intense settlement, the Lower Castle was destroyed. Some wall fragments and towers from the west have survived to the present day.
It is one of the most remarkable works of the region. It is a castle whose first date of construction is unknown. Built in the 14th or 15th century, the castle was used until the end of the 1800s. The steep rock mass on which the castle was built is 750 meters above sea level and approximately 100 meters above the stream bed. This castle consists of outer walls, middle walls and inner castle. There are three important structures in the middle castle. These are guard house, chapel and head tower. It is understood from the beam marks and beam holes on the walls that the tower has four floors. It is known that the castle continued to be used after the Ottomans conquered the region. The two hand cannons found in the castle are exhibited in the Trabzon Museum today. The building, which has recently undergone restoration, has a beautiful view overlooking the valley and is one of the must-visit points in the district. Restoration works carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism were completed in 2011.
